Overseas Storage and Processing

Some of the service providers we use, including ecommerce, payment, cloud-hosting, marketing and technology providers, may store or process personal information outside New Zealand.

Where personal information is disclosed to an overseas organisation, we will take reasonable steps to ensure that the disclosure complies with the Privacy Act 2020, including Information Privacy Principle 12 where applicable.

Privacy laws in other countries may differ from New Zealand law. In some circumstances, an overseas provider may process personal information on our behalf without using it for its own independent purposes.

We do not use overseas fulfilment providers.

Shopify

Our online store is powered by Shopify.

Shopify processes information to provide and support our ecommerce website, checkout, transaction, security and related services. Shopify may also process personal information for purposes described in its own privacy documentation.

Because Shopify operates internationally, information processed through Shopify may be stored or handled outside New Zealand.

You can review Shopify’s current privacy information on Shopify’s website.

Our website may contain links, integrations or social-media features operated by third parties.

When you follow a third-party link or interact with a third-party feature, that organisation may collect and use information under its own privacy policy. We do not control the privacy, security or content practices of unrelated third-party websites.

The inclusion of a link does not necessarily mean that we endorse the third party or its practices.

Product Reviews and Public Content

If you submit a product review, social-media post or other content intended for public display, information included in that content may become publicly available.

Please do not include sensitive information, payment details, private contact information or other information you do not want publicly disclosed.

We take reasonable safeguards to protect personal information against loss, misuse, unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration and destruction.

These safeguards may include:

  • Access controls;
  • Password protection;
  • Secure third-party platforms;
  • Encryption where appropriate;
  • Staff access restrictions; and
  • Procedures for handling suspected privacy and security incidents.

Where a breach has caused or is likely to cause serious harm, we will notify the Office of the Privacy Commissioner and affected individuals as required by the Privacy Act 2020.

Retention of Personal Information

We retain personal information only for as long as it is reasonably required for the purpose for which it was collected or as required by law.

Retention periods may depend on:

  • Whether you maintain an account;
  • The nature of your transactions with us;
  • Warranty, return or dispute periods;
  • Tax, accounting and financial-record obligations;
  • Fraud-prevention and security requirements;
  • Legal claims or regulatory obligations; and
  • Whether the information remains reasonably necessary to provide our services.

When information is no longer reasonably required, we will take reasonable steps to delete it, anonymise it or securely dispose of it.

Backup copies and records held by service providers may remain for a limited period in accordance with their normal retention and security processes.

Accessing and Correcting Your Information

You may request access to personal information that we hold about you and ask us to correct information that you believe is inaccurate.

To make a request, email team@artfulandsage.co.nz.

Please provide enough information to help us identify you and locate the relevant records. We may ask for reasonable evidence of identity before responding.

We will respond within the timeframe required by the Privacy Act 2020.

In some circumstances, the Privacy Act allows us to withhold information or decline a requested correction. If we decline a request, we will explain the applicable reason where required by law.

If we do not make a requested correction, you may ask us to attach a statement of correction to the information.

You may also update certain details by signing into your customer account, where that functionality is available.

Deletion Requests

You may ask us to delete personal information that we hold about you.
